The Morro de Arica is the undisputed symbol of the city and one of the most important historical landmarks in northern Chile. This imposing 139-meter-high headland rises right at the edge of the Pacific Ocean, overlooking the bay and offering an unmatched panoramic view of the city, the port, and the coastline. It was the setting for the famous Assault and Capture of the Morro de Arica in 1880, one of the most remembered episodes of the War of the Pacific.

At its summit stands the Historical and Weapons Museum, a large Chilean flag, and commemorative monuments that invite visitors to explore history at a relaxed pace while enjoying the sea breeze. You can climb up on foot via a pedestrian trail or by vehicle, and the sunset from its viewpoint is one of the favorite spectacles for both locals and visitors.
